Everett and Josephine attended Gallifrey One over the weekend promoting their new show "Time for Dimensional Robin"

Gallifrey One is an annual North American science fiction convention focusing primarily on the British television series Doctor Who and its spin-offs, Torchwood, K-9 and The Sarah Jane Adventures, with an additional emphasis on British and American science fiction television media, held each February in Los Angeles. The event bills itself as "the largest and longest-running annual Doctor Who convention in the world".
Our Experience
This was the first time Josie and I have ever attended a Fan Convention. We figured this would be the perfect one to start on, because even though we have our own personal fanaticisms (I'm a Trekkie and Josie's a Potterhead), the one (besides Disney) that we both absolutely adore together is Doctor Who.
But let's not kid ourselves, we were also there, fully dressed in our T4DR costumes, to promote Time for Dimensional Robin. Little did we know how little we knew how conventions work. While it was fun to meet people, it was hard to get people interested in our show. Gallifrey One isn't really a place where people promote their work. It's a place to celebrate Doctor Who in many different ways. Don't het me wrong, people were nice and receptive, but the energy wasn't quite what we expected.
One of our favorite panels was the official guide to writing in Gallifreyan. Yes, we learned how to write in the language of the Time Lord. For the first time I understood how cool it must've felt for Trekkies to learn Klingon. Another favorite was the Disney Who - so many people had great ideas about how the future of Disney's relationship with Doctor Who. Nearly all of dreamed of a Doctor Who Land. Sadly, it's not quite certain that Doctor Who can reach the mass audience that Marvel and Star Wars achieved. But we have hope... just like the Doctor.
Overrall, it was really great. We are glad we were able to start our Fan Convention campaign with a medium sized Con of our favorite show, but it is a bit of a worry for us. Is this the right strategy to promote T4DR? Or are we going about it all wrong? We'll have to rack our brains to figure out what other strategy we could implement. But for now, we'll stick with out current strategy of attending the FanCons and promoting ourselves. Next on the agenda: WonderCon (Anaheim).
